Remote Emergency Care - Level 3 (REC3)

A two day course that is recognised by the Mountaineering Ireland, Canoe Ireland, Scouting Ireland and other outdoor governing bodies. On this course the focus is on dealing with incidents far from medical help with the minimal equipment you would carry while participating in or leading outdoor activities.

The emphasis is on practical skills with plenty of hands-on practice including lots of outdoor scenarios. This course can be tailored to the requirements of special interest groups, for example climbers, mountain leaders, paddle sports instructors etc

Topics covered include: 

  • Patient Assessment, both Medical (DR ABCDE) and Trauma (DR CAcBCDE)
  • The safe airway position
  • The management of an obstructed airway
  • Haemorrhage control
  • Treating Shock
  • Bandaging Techniques
  • Splinting Techniques
  • Dealing with Common Medical Emergencies
  • The safe use of an EPI-Pen
  • CPR & AED use
  • The care principles of helmet removal (open adventure sports helmet)
  • Airway Management and Movement of a suspected spinal injured patient
