About

Paul Nolan 1StepMore instructor

Hello. My name is Paul Nolan.

I live in the foothills of the beautiful Wicklow Mountains, a range I've played in for over 40 years.

Cub Scouts led me to Orienteering then to Hill Running. Sports that shaped my interests for 2 decades. I loved all types of races, from (somehow) still holding the record on the 3.7km Sugarloaf Rush, to being one third of the first team to complete the 110km Wicklow Round in 2009.

Following the collapse of the Celtic Tiger and the disappearance of my 9 to 5 in Environmental Engineering I began working as a Mountain Leader in 2012 before moving into the fields of Medical and First Aid training in 2020.

I've completed the WEMSI EMT programme in addition to being a registered EMT Assistant Tutor who practices with the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team. I draw upon these experiences when delivering First Aid/Medical Practitioner training to the following standards:

  • Remote Emergency Care (Levels 1, 2, 3, 4)
  • Pre-hospital Emergency Care Council (CFR, CFR-A, FAR, EFR, EMT)
  • American Heart Association (Heartsaver AED, BLS)

First Aid Training is now my focus.

For my Remote Emergency Care courses I draw on personal experiences from Hillwalking, Orienteering, Mountain Running and occasional climbing, along with the knowledge I picked up gaining the qualifications to work as a Mountain Leader, Winter Mountain Leader and International Mountain Leader. Mixed in with a bit of vertical rope work as a Rock Climbing Instructor and Rope Rescue Technician.
