Blog-Review Hybrid

Recently I ran a Basic Outdoors First Aid training day for The Irish Ramblers Club. Happily one of the participants took the time and trouble to summarise the day. For which I am truly grateful.
"Paul asked us about our experiences on club hikes, listened well and gave us real answers to our queries. He brought us through reasons for hypothermia and two other hypos! And how to respond.
He showed us and we got to copy his instructions to manage head injury, arm and hand injury and leg and ankle injury, with bandages.
He gave us all a report page to use when waiting for mountain rescue and to hand over to mountain rescue. We took a lot of time on this because there are many of us who have a medical history, take tablets etc which will be relevant in an incident.
He helped us talk through a difficult injured person and a difficult onlooker.
He demonstrated resuscitation with a manikin and using a defibrillator.
At the very end I asked him to simulate a hiker having an an ankle injury...himself, as we pretend walked. Others didn't expect it. We had to manage him etc. I would like more of this simulation eg a Rambler having a heart attack and how to react.
Area we used : When we met, at 9.30am, the weather was gorgeous but cool in the shade. We explained our expectations and Paul outlined the day in the Glendalough visitors centre carpark for a half hour, in the shade. Some of us got cold, Paul explained hypothermia.
From 10.15am to 2.30pm we were in the sloping forest in front of Glendalough hotel's front, on the Wicklow Way.
We moved around, it was pleasant."
